Genre: Documentary, Military

Men of Honor: The Story of the U.S. Army explores the growth and evolution of the U.S. Army over the course of the 20th Century. In The Yanks Are Coming, we trace the development of the U.S. Army from a small cavalry force designed to fight the Indian Wars of the Great Plains to the expansions and contractions that it experienced during World War I and in the period leading up to World War II.

1. The History of Cavalry

Alexander Scourby narrates this episodic sweep through the cavalry’s history from the Revolutionary War of 1776 through the conflict in Korea.

2. Over There: The U.S. Army in WWI

In this chapter, we examine the history of the U.S. during World War I and its decisive role in the defeat of Imperial Germany.

3. Prelude To War

In “Prelude to War” we look at the U.S. Army during the tumultuous years of the 1930’s – the rise of Hitler and Mussolini, Japan’s aggression in Manchuria and China, the Italo-Ethiopian War, and the Spanish Civil War.

4. A World Aflame

This chapter examines the world events of 1939 to 1941, including the war in China, the early phases of World War II in Europe, the fall of France, Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor, and the subsequent U.S. mobilization of its armed forces.
