Helicopter War: Vietnam 1964 – 1972

The air war fought in the skies over Vietnam pitted the world’s most technically advanced air forces against the most sophisticated air defense system developed at that time.

In this series, we chronicle the history of the air war in Vietnam as seen by the pilots who fought in it. Using previously unreleased, once classified footage of the conflict, this series comprises the most comprehensive video history of the air war in Vietnam ever assembled.

1. Helicopter War- Helicopter War explores the first extensive tactical deployment of helicopters in an armed conflict and the role of “air mobile” during the war.
2. Helicopter Gunships- Helicopter Gunships looks at the variety of helicopter gun-ships deployed during the war and their varied use in battle.
3. Air Mobile- Dramatic footage of the role of air mobile and of the 1st Cavalry Division during the Vietnam conflict. Includes: The Air Mobile Division and First Cavalry Division in Vietnam.
4. Huey Cobra in Vietnam- Considered an icon of the Vietnam War, the Bell UH-1 Helicopter made the theory of air cavalry practical, as the new tactics called for U.S. forces to be highly mobile across a wide area.
5. Mission Dustoff: Helicopter Medics in Action- In Vietnam, medevac helicopters enabled medics to be on board and treat wounded soldiers while transporting them back to the Field Hospitals. This resulted in an astounding 98% survival rate for soldiers who were evacuated within the first hour.
6. Army Combat Photographer- Featuring the sights and sounds of the Vietnam conflict, from both the air and on the ground. Army combat photographers had to overcome difficult terrain and dangerous conditions in order to record this amazing footage.
