From Normandy to Paris
On June 6, 1944, in Operation Overlord, one of the greatest sea borne invasions of all time, Allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy and commenced the long awaited liberation of Europe. In less than 100 days, on August 29th, triumphant Allied armies were marching through the streets of Paris.
Beginning with the hard fought Normandy landings, we follow the Allied armies as they establish and consolidate their Normandy beachheads and begin their long slow march across the hedgerowed fields of Normandy. By August, the Allied armies had broken though the German lines on the Caen-Falaise plain and begun a frenzied dash across northern France to save Paris, the city of lights, from imminent destruction. On August 25th, church bells throughout Paris rang out in unison announcing that after four years of enemy occupation, Paris was again a free city.
